Casterton Kelpie Muster Art Show

A letter from Rotary

Dear Artist,

AUSTRALIAN KELPIE MUSTER ART SHOW 2025

At last, we have things sorted sufficiently to get an entry form for this year’s Australian Kelpie Muster Art Show to you.
Please accept our apologies for the lateness. It wasn’t a “man-made” issue.
Until now we had difficulties finding undamaged and suitable sites for you to send your valuable entries to us. I can blame the now infamous Hail storm that created  havoc with Casterton and Nareen back in October….(and still is driving us spare).
Having said that, we are in a position to declare “The Show must go on…!”
Attached is a new hardcopy entry form.
We have also created a link to register/enter and pay for your entries online if you wish. My colleagues prefer the on-line version as we have less margin for error when entering using the link. You will find the link on https://castertonrotary.org/
Should you have an issue when using the link I’m told you just refresh the page and off you go. If you have given it repeated tries then please just use the hard copy entry form.
PLEASE NOTE: We are trying to maximise our income from the show so have raised the commission on sales from our rock bottom 15% to 20% to put us a little closer to other shows. Please add the additional 5% to your sale price when valuing your work. We will work hard to make a sale on your behalf.

Best wishes, and hope to see you at the gala Opening night if possible on the 5th June.

Wally

The Kelpie Muster Art Show incorporating the Kelpie Acquisitive Art Award commenced in 2011 organised by the Casterton Kelpie Association’s Ann James and Sharon McGrath. In recent years the Rotary club of Casterton has joined us to transform the fantastic Art Deco Casterton Town Hall into a  spectacular display of artworks under the banner of the Kelpie Muster Art Show. The major prize offered is the Acquisitive Art Award, a subject category featuring artwork depicting Australia’s iconic working dog, of course it’s the Kelpie. This art show attracts art from all corners of the nation.

Upon payment of the major prize by the Casterton Kelpie Association, the winning entry is added to the collection of former winners which remain on display at the Australian Kelpie Centre right here in Casterton, the birth place of the kelpie.

Rotary has created additional art subject categories The Gorman Prize for Portraiture, The Vickery Bros Australiana award and an Emerging Artists’ prize to the main event, The Kelpie Acquisitive Art Award to broaden the fine art experience. This artistic interlude in the centre of Kelpie long weekend provides a few moments to reflect on our working dogs. All Art except the acquisitive art award is for sale with generous prizes offered for the winning entries in each category.

A popular Gala Opening Ceremony heralds the excitement to follow and launches both the Kelpie Muster Art Show and the Casterton Kelpie Associations long weekend of events. It’s a must for those who plan ahead and arrive on the Thursday night prior to the town’s inundation with dogs.
