The Australian Kelpie Muster
The Casterton Kelpie Association is proud to present the 22th Australian Kelpie Muster which will be held from Thursday 7th June through to Monday 11th June 2018 being the Queen's Birthday long weekend, in Casterton, Victoria.
On Thursday 7th at 6pm you can witness the Official Opening to the weekend festivities at the Casterton Town Hall with the launch of the Kelpie Art Exhibition hosted by Casterton Rotary Club. Guest Artist in 2018 is Julie Kent and you will be amazed at the quality and diversity of the artwork on display from across Australia, all hoping to claim the ‘Winner of Exhibition’ prize – the exhibition will be open from Thursday evening through to Sunday.
Saturday you will witness Casterton’s main street come alive with the Kelpie Festival – you can have breakfast with the local Lion’s Club at the Poet’s Breakfast from 8am in preparation for the amazingly colourful Street Parade, where community groups spend hours making the most delightful floats for displays throughout the main street at 10am.
The Street Parade will be followed by ‘everything Kelpie’ – with any number of kelpie events to watch and entertain you. The Kelpie Triathlon attracts the most fierce of competitors all challenging to potentially break the Kelpie High Jump record of an amazing 2.915m, but what about the speed of the Kelpies in the Kelpie Dash or see the Kelpie’s take on the challenge of climbing Blueberry Hill for a record number of seconds in the Kelpie Hill Climb, all for the ultimate prize of King of the Kelpies.
Stockman's Challenge is a high calibre event watching the contestants compete with their working dogs and horses over the obstacle course.
Kelpie Kids Zone – is every kids dream with a Jumping Castle, Animal Zoo, Kelpie Badge Making and FREE giveaways for the kids. Parenting Room facilities available in this zone.
The Australian Premier Working Dog Auction on Sunday has a strong history of providing the best bred working dogs with Vendor’s being rewarded with good prices year after year. Potential buyers and visitors can watch dogs allocated in the auction catalogue demonstrate their skills from 9am at Island Park with the Auction commencing at 3pm.
Full catering is available at the auction provided by our wonderful volunteers in the Dog Bowl plus there will be a variety of market stalls available in the ‘big green shed’.
The Casterton Kelpie Association who organise the 'Australian Kelpie Muster' are a ‘not for profit’ organisation and our event would not be possible without all the companies, organisations, clubs, associations, community groups, and individuals who volunteer their time not only for the weekend but throughout the year – we sincerely thank them.
